Project Description
Year: 2024
Amount: € 2.000,-
Where: Paniai
Thanks to the generous donations of our supporters, the coffee project in Tuguwai, Paniai district, has become a success. The Ayago Farmers Group now operates a fully functional greenhouse for drying coffee cherries and has machines to hull the cherries and further process the beans.
The great thing is that the project extends beyond Tuguwai: a second greenhouse has been built in a nearby village using residual materials and acquired knowledge. In this way, the expertise and success of the project is shared with other communities in the region.
Thanks to this collaboration and perseverance, more than 25 families now benefit from a sustainable source of income. A wonderful example of how we can strengthen local communities together!

Three years ago, farmers in the village of Tuguwai (Paniai district) planted their first coffee plant seeds. Their efforts have proven successful, as the plants are now beginning to yield fruit. However, in order to actually start harvesting the coffee cherries, additional resources are needed.
The novice coffee farmers in Tuguwai have come together under the Ayago Farmers Group. This cooperative is overseen by three management members who assist local farmers with financial matters and planning. Recently, Chairman Pak Agus reached out to Hapin, inquiring whether we would be interested in supporting these coffee farmers.
Prior to the actual marketing of the coffee, several crucial tasks must be addressed. Firstly, a greenhouse is required, or a structure where the coffee cherries can undergo the drying process. Additionally, machines are necessary for peeling the berries to extract the beans that can later be ground into coffee. The entire journey from plant to coffee is a collaborative effort within the Tuguwai community, ensuring that the tasks are shared, and everyone reaps the benefits of the proceeds. Presently, there are 25 families actively participating in the coffee project.
Hapin offered financial assistance for acquiring machines and materials needed for the greenhouse. Additionally, we will bear the expenses associated with transporting all essential items from the city to the remote Paniai region.
