Sustainability is an integral part of Hapin’s vision and mission. We exclusively support initiatives and projects that contribute sustainably to the socio-economic development of communities in Papua.

Our projects

All project proposals are evaluated against criteria including sustainability. This means that we specifically inquire about the handling of nature, resources, and people. We aim to avoid creating dependency relationships so that our partners can continue independently in the future.

Our organization

Hapin operates with full transparency; all information about our organization is available on our website. The board is as diverse as possible in terms of cultural background, gender ratio, and age. We are committed to the sustainable engagement of our employees and network, ensuring that knowledge is retained even when board members and volunteers leave.

From an environmental and cost perspective, Hapin seeks to limit travel to Papua. However, physical presence in Papua to support our partners is desired and necessary.

  • The office in Utrecht strives to be as climate-neutral as possible: the building has energy label A.
  • The consumption of office supplies and paper is minimized, and items are primarily purchased second-hand.
  • Whenever feasible, we collaborate with sustainable suppliers and partners; our website is hosted by a ‘green’ provider.
