For the past ten years, Aletta Bouare has been running a modest little “market” in her apartment building in Amsterdam. Together with her husband, she sells surplus household items, second-hand clothing and all kinds of other donated goods.
With permission from the buildingowner, Aletta displays the items on small tables in the hallway of the building: a child’s bicycle, clothing, bed linen, shoes, Christmas decorations — you name it. She is amazed by the success of the initiative.
The market, which she has lovingly named the “Flat Market”, has become a warm meeting place for residents. And Aletta is very clear about where the proceeds of the monthly market go: to Hapin.
A wonderful initiative by Aletta and Issaka.
