This past year, Kristina conducted research into mismanagement within village cooperatives in Papua. These cooperatives help villagers save money together and support one another. But when board members handle funds carelessly, tensions rise and trust is quickly lost. Kristina investigated what rights members have and how they can protect themselves. “Many people don’t even know they have rights within a village cooperative,” she explains. Her work helps villages manage their money more fairly and responsibly.
Kristina has been part of our scholarship programme for the past few years. She has now graduated and works at LBH Papua, where she provides free legal assistance to vulnerable people — with a special focus on women’s rights. In this way, Kristina continues to build a more just Papua.
