About 8,000 people from the Asmat-tribe live in Merauke (South Papua). They moved from small villages in the Asmat region to the city, looking for work and a better life. Unfortunately, they often end up in deprived areas of Merauke due to lack of land and education.
This is Yuvita Kogoya, 27 years old. She has been living in Efesus refugee camp near Sentani for over a year. In March of last year, her village was wiped out in a landslide.
The organizations Bunga Papua and Geropa have taken interest in the fate of the Kokodas. They submitted an project proposal to Hapin for the purchase of modern water purification filters.
