More than 8 years ago my grandmother – born and raised in Papua – took me for the first time to this special Indonesian island. Ever since this trip the Papuans have had a special place in my heart. Not only because of their unique culture, but also because the position of the Papuans on the world stage and the lack of their voice in the media moves me. Since then I have visited Papua several times. Once to investigate the role of young Papuan women at home and at school for my research as part of my bachelor’s studies.
I had long followed Hapin’s work from a distance. I am therefore very happy that I am able to call myself a financial administrative employee of this organization since May 1st. As a cultural anthropologist I can indulge myself here, use my knowledge as an experienced project leader and get to know my roots better as a third generation of Papua. So the ideal workplace for me! When I can do what I’m good at, you’ll find me on the edge of my seat.
What I always really appreciate about the Papuans is their enormous hospitality. My goal is to pass on this beautiful quality to the people around me, in my work for Hapin.
