Project Description

Isak

In Papua, people value a doctor who speaks their language and truly understands them. That’s exactly why Isak wants to become a doctor. This past semester has been intense for him: he completed clinical rotations at a general practice, conducted home visits, and gained new insights in the field of psychiatry. One patient’s story touched him deeply. Like Isak himself, this man became an orphan at a young age and, as a Papuan, has had to fight hard to find his place in society.

Thanks to your generous support, Isak will be able to graduate from medical school this summer. But he’s already looking ahead. It wouldn’t surprise us if his next step is a specialization in pediatrics.

Ariel

For Ariel, learning through experience took on a very personal meaning. This health analyst in training – specializing in malaria – contracted malaria himself! Thankfully, he has now recovered. Recently, Ariel arranged an internship at a health center in Sentani. There, he examined patients for malaria symptoms and also gave educational talks in the village to both adults and children about infection and treatment.

In the coming period, Ariel will focus on research into malaria infections among pregnant women.
