A large number of young people from and around Jayapura are at risk of becoming entangled in various forms of addiction such as gambling, drugs and alcohol. There is no work for them, no guidance and no alternative activities for these boys and girls. The Percetakan Boxing Club (PBC) from Jayapura was founded in 2014 to take the young people out of this downward spiral and to restore confidence and motivation.
There are now 25 Papuan boys and girls enthusiastically members of the PBC, who participate in regional competitions. The people of the boxing club would like to expand the project and have more young people participate. Investments must also be made in new materials such as head protectors, gloves and boxing balls. The participants see their lives regaining perspective now that they form a motivated group together.
