The Manai family is well known to Hapin. Delin’s brother, Ariel, has been part of our scholarship program for a year. He studies health sciences and hopes to complete his master’s degree in the near future. Delin is 27 years old and Ariel’s younger sister. She is the second child in a family of five children. Her father works as a plumber and her mother is a civil servant. Delin’s father doesn’t have a job every day. And although her mother’s income is sufficient for the family’s basic needs, it’s not enough to send all the children to college. With the family’s small budget, Ariel was able to complete his bachelor’s degree, and Delin completed part of a nursing course. However, she had to stop early because all the study costs together became too high. The will to continue studying remained. Delin would like to get a good job, so that there are means for her brothers and sisters to study as well.
Since January 2023, Delin has therefore been part of Hapin’s scholarship programme. She studies law at Cendrawasih University in Jayapura, where the family lives. Her studies had already started two months before, but Delin could not start yet because she had not yet been able to pay her registration costs. Fortunately, this backlog of two months has now been made up. Delin’s dream is to become a lawyer. Her goal is first of all to make her parents proud. She also wants to help her family economically and lighten her parents’ workload.
