Sexual and reproductive health is an universal human right. Yet in many places in the world there is reluctance or fear to discuss this topic, let alone pursue it. Discussing sexuality and reproductive health is still a taboo in Papua. Little or no reliable information is available for girls and young women about their body development and menstruation.

In many ways Papuans are unlike other Indonesians, whereas they are equal before law. It is the responsibility of the Indonesian government to protect minorities and to ensure that every citizen has equal rights. If or when authorities fail to ensure human rights, the work of local NGO's are of utmost importance.
